HISTORY

CAMP, Inc. began in its present form in March 2001, merging the housing production capacity of the Metro Development Neighborhood Corp (begun in 1997) and Community Affairs Ministering Program (begun in 1993). The merger allows CAMP, Inc. to reach a larger community through an expanded network of partnerships and programs.

The Community Alliance of Metropolitan Parkway (CAMP, Inc.) is a nonprofit affordable housing and community development organization whose mission is to revitalize the Metropolitan Parkway Corridor communities of Capitol View, Capitol View Manor, Sylvan Hills, Perkerson and Hammond Park (also known as NPU-X) through affordable housing and economic development. It seeks to enhance the image of the area and to create a safe, livable community.

NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILE

In 1926, the City of Atlanta's first transportation plan - the Beeler Report - was issued and called for significant improvements to the City's streets and bridges. When the resurfacing and new construction were completed, it was no longer necessary to live on a trolley line. Atlantans could easily commute to work by car, and many chose to buy in new developments called "garden suburbs."

The Capitol View neighborhood in CAMP's impact area represents the southern-most perimeter of these early suburbs. Like Virginia-Highland, Candler Park and other historic Atlanta neighborhoods, the five communities in CAMP's impact area feature brick bungalow design, prominent front porches and city-scale lawns - in other words, all the architectural styling of in-town living.

PARTNERSHIPS

One of CAMP's greatest assets is our many partnerships. By forging relationships in Atlanta's financial, social and faith-based communities, CAMP enjoys a unique network of resources for community development. Click here for some of our funders, and partners.

Community Alliance of Metropolitan Parkway (CAMP, Inc), Historic District Development Corporation (HDDC) , Peoplestown Revitalization Corporation (PRC), Reynoldstown Revitalization Corporation (RRC), SUMMECH and University Community Development Corporation (UCDC) have collaborated to form the Metropolitan Atlanta Community Development Corporation (MACDC). The MACDC is an entity established to be the housing production arm for the CDC to increase affordable housing units in the Metro Atlanta Area.
